David Kay Brass Fairy Sculpture
Artwork Description
Brass Fairy Sculpture
David Kay, LLC, c. 1990s
The warm glow of brass and thoughtful figural detailing give this fairy sculpture a quiet charm — wings unfurled and form poised in graceful motion, it serves equally well as a focal point on a mantel, a collector’s display, or a desk accent. Each piece carries the slight variances and patina that come from its casting and age, making it a collectible example of decorative brass artistry from the 1990s.
About David Kay
David Kay started the company with his wife Jennifer Kay and his sister-in-law Nancy Lindsay in 1982 as a catalogue company "Gifts for Home and Garden."The catalogue started with a curated selection that sold well, and it is assumed that success led to outsourcing of brass sculpture work to experts in India. India has a long history of expert brass making, which makes it a logical choice.
A U.S. trademark for “DAVID KAY” (for direct-mail catalogs covering house & garden items) was filed by David Kay, Inc. in December 1990 and was registered in 1991. That registration ultimately was cancelled/expired by 2002.
Another trademark for “DAVID KAY — THE CATALOGUE FOR HOME AND GARDEN” was filed in 1993 and later abandoned. Most likely to build off of the legitimacy of the name, the brand was sold or taken up by the Oriental Trading Company.
